Fare Spazio

«… In the third year, the mass of latent stimuli that everyone brings with them from freedom and active life begins to die out and what remains is that glimmer of will, which manifests itself in the reverie of unrealised grandiose plans: the prisoner lies on his back in his bunk and passes the time by spitting at the ceiling, dreaming of things that cannot be realised0. This I will certainly not do, because I hardly ever spit and also because the ceiling is too high…! »

DANIEL BUREN

Bassorilievi e Altorilievi.
Lavori in-situ e situati 2020-2024

The exhibition unfolds in two exhibition halls of the gallery where the artist will present a nucleus of 14 works, 7 of which are situated (to use the term Buren himself adopts) and 7 made in situ; in other words, they have been created in relation to their surroundings and inspired by the space in which they are placed. Reconnecting with the concept of sculpture, the title of the exhibition picks up on the techniques of high relief and bas-relief used by man since earliest times. Whereas in high relief the figures stand out strongly from the surface and protrude almost in the round from the plane, in bas-relief they emerge to a much lesser extent.

UNDERLINING brings together the one-man shows of four artists: Giovanni ANSELMO, Giulio PAOLINI, Giuseppe PENONE and Gilberto ZORIO, who have been pivotal figures in the panorama of contemporary art since the 1960s and are linked to the TUCCI RUSSO Gallery, which this year celebrates its 45th anniversary, both for its exhibition history and for the shared vision. In dialogue with Antonio Tucci Russo, each artist has made a free choice of the works to exhibit in his room. Each room is independent of the next.

CHRISTIANE LÖHR

IN FOLGE

Christiane Löhr’s creative process centres around form in space. The artist uses the natural environment from which she gathers seeds, stems and horsehair that are structured into both slender sculptures and environmental installations. Extrapolated from their original context the organic materials are then reprocessed into autonomous works which, though continuing to reflect the natural life cycle from which they have been alienated, cross over the transitoriness of time.

THOMAS SCHÜTTE

THOMAS SCHÜTTE

Reflection on the human condition always lies at the heart of Thomas Schütte’s work, independently of the subject or of the materials employed. In his art he frequently draws on the theme of the family, of human expressions and architectonic models. He works in different mediums, such as steel, glass, bronze and ceramics, to explore concepts linked to cultural memory, to existential difficulty and to human effort that is often expended in striving towards a utopian and impossible ideal. Schütte’s sculpted figures reflect the image and moods of man, and therefore of the artist himself, against the backdrop of life’s precariousness.

RAINBOW 2018

By a selection of artists, Rainbow 2018 shows three chronological periods starting from the '60s and the '70s up to the 2000s. This timeframe aims to identify an imaginary which, despite the differences, has been the guideline of the gallery activity in its ongoing research of a dialogue between various generations.

CHRISTIANE LÖHR

NODI E SNODI

The exhibition consists of a grouping of sculptures and drawings.
The sculptures appear as architectures and geometric forms created with natural elements, horsehair and blades of grass which, in their intersecting, become the constituent and forming structures of the work. Removing these elements from natural processes, the artist crystallises their presence in the world, thus alienating them from the normal temporality of natural cycles.
The drawings lead to the expression of an extended thought which investigates the blank space of the paper, giving the latter a connotation not only physical but also mental.

PRIMITIVES

Through art history the notion of what constitutes the primitive has had an underlying effect on various aspects of cultural production. We define the primitive as characteristically depicting an early state with regards to civilization, or even an early stage of evolutionary development. The term primitive also pertains to geological, linguistic, as well as theological associations. The definition also continues to pinpoint societies characterized by low-income levels and non-industrial social systems. It is within the framework of attempting to define the term Primitives that Robin Rhode has developed his latest exhibition, his fourth solo presentation at the gallery.

TENSION

For Tension, the installation concept takes the architecture of the gallery as a means for creating a site-specific photographic and audio installation. Here, the gallery space has been divided into viewing chambers in order to enable visitors to experience each photographic work privately, from limited viewing points. These works highlight the visual tension exerted between the human form/body, the drawn line, or mark made which activates the narrative, as well as the specific space in which the narrative unfolds. The combination of these entities allow for a new re-evaluation of both the idea, as well as the relationship between the physical body and its imaginary impulses.

... NELLA TUA OMBRA - 1988-2013

The title, a detail drawn from the Song of Songs, aims to underscore a course that the artist has been steering since the start of his career, in which a close link with shadow seems to be the essential principle of his work.
Often, in fact, in Alfredo Pirri's works the coloured shadows that spread on the walls, almost as if seeking to grasp the entire surrounding environment, appear to be direct emanations of the forms that generated them rather than merely the result of interposing an opaque body between the source of light and the wall/screen.

PROMENADE

First solo show in Italy, in Promenade the South African born artist Robin Rhode presents new works, all of which were realised on-site at Tucci Russo Studio per l’Arte Contemporanea.
Rhode creates an atmosphere of limbo achieved through the construct and combination of the works in the exhibition: paintings, drawings, animation, and photography are executed in monochrome black and white, illustrating not just the passing and suspension of time, but also its transcendence.

CANTI

Through his works Alfredo Pirri incites us to pay attention to what sensible, visible, invisible surrounds us in our proceeding in a complex world, both of natural (dawn, sunset, rain, light) and of social phenomena.
Light and colour are protagonists of Alfredo Pirri’s gift for narrating, with manifold variations in each exhibit and in the ways the onlooker is attracted by the rhythms and tones this narration develops.

PLACES (LUOGHI)

The Places series deals with the notions of absence/presence, loss, and memory, combined with the exploration of the meaning of "place," and the possibility of rendering this philosophical concept into a work of art.
In this sense, these works relate closely to the works from the "Atopies" series, the "M" works and, in particular, the “Tombeaux” works.
Compared to these previous series, the Places works seem to be more conclusive - they concentrate “meanings”, “things that happened”, “parts of lives”.

LA DEGENERAZIONE DI PARSIFAL

... The geometric order will soon be undermined and the organic nature of the flour promotes the formation of caterpillars and then butterflies flying over the sculpture: a new order will be progressively established, because degeneration also means generation of other forms, because in the confrontation of two visions of the world the weakest one degenerates, whereas the strongest one generates and because the prevailing of a system over another determines - even though for a while – a hybrid, ambiguous, enigmatic moment that is metaphysics going the route of reality, i.e. The Degeneration of Parsifal.

S.N.O.W. - Sculpture in Non - Objective Way

The intention of the show S.N.O.W - Sculpture in Non-Objective Way is to investigate on some of the aspects of contemporary sculptural exploration, concentrating on non-objective and abstract   languages. The goal is to display the extreme dynamism of a certain conceptual and formal exploration that pushes itself beyond the mere aspects of sculpture as a figurative and narrative language.

QUI ED ORA

“The works exhibited, some of them here on display for the very first time, are all quite new, as they date back to 2004.
It couldn’t be different, as a matter of fact, due to my constant attitude to think that an exhibition per se is a work (mother of all works), the formal and actual act , the author signs every time in a given moment in time and place".
